How We're Helping COVID-19 Researchers

Today, the COVID-19 global pandemic is the most urgent and pressing issue facing our health care systems.

On March 12, Cancer Computer began working with its research partners, like the University of Washington's Institute for Protein Design (IPD), to begin processing COVID-19 research workloads. Critical to this support, is Cancer Computer's ability to provide these leading researchers, scientists, and academic organizations with access to high-performance computing resources and to ensure that the available supercomputing capacity keeps up with the significant demand related to COVID-19 research.

The IPD's researchers actively rely on community partners, like Cancer Computer, to provide them with the supercomputing resources they need to design tens of thousands of anti-coronavirus mini-protein binders. In the coming weeks they hope to produce these mini-proteins in the lab and measure their ability to bind to spike proteins. With this knowledge in hand, new proteins to neutralize coronavirus are being worked on. If successful, these antiviral proteins would stick to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and thereby prevent viral particles from infecting healthy cells.

How You Can Help

The Government of Canada recently donated four hundred and ten (410) Dell & HPE Gen12/13 servers to Cancer Computer. These servers will allow Cancer Computer to nearly triple our current supercomputing contribution to IPD, and will have a significant impact on research outcomes related to COVID-19. There are significant costs related to getting these servers mounted and operational. This will allow Cancer Computer to provide these supercomputing resources at one tenth the cost, of the most discounted rates, provided by commercial supercomputing providers.

We need your financial support to deploy these critically needed servers. Please consider donating to help Cancer Computer provide high-performance computing resources to scientists who are actively developing life-saving interventions for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.
